PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin is no longer concerned with who Pakatan Harapan's prime minister candidate is.

Instead, the Ampang MP said she is focusing on working to achieve victory for the opposition coalition in the coming general election.

"Now I will continue to work for victory, it doesn't matter now who is prime minister," she said at a press conference in Ampang, Selangor last night.

Zuraida said this when asked to elaborate on her disagreement with Harapan's move to nominate Dr Mahathir Mohamad as its prime ministerial candidate.

Asked who she would prefer as prime minister instead, she merely reiterated that it should be someone younger.

When probed further on Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad's urging for Selangor PKR to name Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali (photo) as their choice for premier, Zuraida said the motion would be defeated.

"The process of choosing a name is by a majority, we have four parties, so if it's three against one we can't even put in a name, it won't be accepted," she noted.

Zuraida had earlier launched Ampang PKR's election machinery for the 14th general election.

In her speech, she clarified that while she felt it would be regressive to make Mahathir prime minister again, she did not bear the nonagenarian any ill will.

She said that when Mahathir was still with BN, she had never called him “mahazalim” (most cruel) or “mahafiraun” (great pharoah) and had even told people off for using such terms.

She also stressed that Harapan should not become like BN if it takes over Putrajaya.

"We don't want to become like BN and not dare to scold the leadership. We are Harapan, we dare to reprimand our leaders," she said.

Mahathir was named as Harapan's prime minister candidate at the coalition's convention on Jan 7, with PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail named as his deputy.
