Dr M accuses ROS of ill intentions for silence on Harapan registration

Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad has accused the Registrar of Societies (ROS) of harbouring ill intentions for not responding to the opposition coalition’s application to register itself under one name and logo.

“Not approving our application or approving it late will only weaken us, and benefit BN and Umno.

“There are elements of mala fide, ill intentions in ROS’ move to not reply us over our registration application,” said Mahathir on his blog yesterday.

He added that Harapan had no clue about its status despite handing in its registration form seven months ago. ROS has neither replied their letters of inquiry, nor stated if it has accepted their registration.

“Our two meetings with them did not result in any official explanation (as to the status of our application). Apparently (it has to do with) are problems related to DAP and Bersatu.

“ROS has also made this statement to the public, but there has been no official letter (to us) stating what exactly the problems are,” said Mahathir.

ROS previously said it did not recognise Harapan component party DAP’s earlier central executive committee elections some four years after it was held.

It also warned that Bersatu could face deregistration after it failed to hold an AGM in accordance with the party’s constitution.

DAP has since held a re-election for its CEC, while Bersatu has completed its AGM.

‘Denying right to choice’

The former premier said that should Harapan fail to have its name and logo registered, its component parties would be left with no choice but to contest in the 14th general election using the individual logos of Bersatu, DAP, PKR and Amanah.

“This will confuse voters,” said Mahathir.

“There is no rule of law in Malaysia that is ruled by (Prime Minister) Najib Razak.

“The rakyat needs to pay attention to Najib’s actions in denying the people the right to choose a government through elections, as guaranteed under the Federal Constitution,” he added.
