It takes China State Construction Engineering (CSCE) only three days, on average, to complete one floor at The Exchange 106 - Putrajaya's latest showpiece highrise at Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) hub in the capital.

On some days, it takes only two days to do so, said Chinese ambassador to Malaysia Bai Tian after a site visit there today.

CSCE is one of the world's largest construction firms. It is also state-linked company.

"The rapid pace of construction for The Exchange 106 is known to every Malaysian household. It is a project which gives Chinese citizens a lot of face. It brings prestige to China," he said, according to Sin Chew Daily.

Bai said his impression of CSCE's work was that they are a capable firm and he was proud of their achievements, particularly because it was helping Malaysia's construction industry break new ground.

He said the 40 percent of the staff involved in the project are locals while 60 percent of materials were sourced locally.

He added that China's future plan was to train Malaysians to do better in the construction industry and through mutual collaboration, improve industry standards in the country.

Bai (below) said this was CSCE's first major undertaking outside of China.

However, the project does not merely fulfil China's interest, but will also involve technology transfer and help Malaysia towards is 2050 economic agenda.

Putrajaya had commissioned Indonesia's Mulia group to develop The Exchange 106 which in turn contracted CSCE for the construction.

Upon completion in June, the building is set to be the tallest in the region, adding 4,885,000 sq ft of commercial space to Kuala Lumpur.

Construction began in June 2016 which means that it will take CSCE only two years to complete the 106 floors.

TRX was a former 1MDB project which was salvaged by Putrajaya after the latter faced severe debt problems.

The Exchange 106 forms the centrepiece of the project, envisioned as a new financial district and named after Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's father.
