Police looking for witness in umrah package scam

Pahang police are looking for Tuan Mohd Yusri Tuan Long, 38, to assist investigations into an umrah (minor haj) scam involving losses of RM44,000 between December 2016 and October last year.

Pahang Commercial CID chief Supt Mohd Wazir Mohd Yusof said Tuan Mohd Yusri’s last known addresses were at No 15, Kampung Larut Tin, Taiping, Perak and No 3 Lorong 4, Jalan Cempaka, Kampung Majidee Baru, Johor Bharu.

"However, attempts to contact Tuan Mohd Yusri at these addresses have failed, and he is requested to appear at the Pahang Contingent Police Headquarters or contact Inspector James Johason at 012-5151417 to assist in investigations into the ‘Kak Ton’ umrah package fraud case," he said when contacted in Kuantan today.

Yesterday, a housewife was charged at the Rompin Magistrate's Court on 11 counts of offering fraudulent umrah packages.

The accused, Zaiton Man, 48, or better known as Kak Ton, was alleged to have deceived victims from around Felda Keratong, Bandar Muadzam Shah, and Bandar Tun Abdul Razak, Rompin.

Disappointed that they were not allowed to go on their umrah trip in Dec last year as promised, the disgruntled victims then lodged reports at the Muadzam Shah Police station.

It is learned that Kak Ton is a representative of a company based in Kamunting, Perak, which in turn collaborates with other umrah agencies to send pilgrims to the Holy Land.
