Who will save Pak Lah from Rafidah?

All the events that we have witnessed lately seem to suggest that International Trade and Industry Minister Rafidah Aziz is a fearsome dragon that has thus far defied and outsmarted her detractors and handlers alike.

In this context one should ask some simple questions. Who created her? And 'why' and 'how'?

This dragon was created by no other than Dr Mahathir Mohamad himself. He gave her all the trust in the running of her portfolio but failed to compel her to make her dealings transparent by the principles of good governance.

With no rotation for more than a decade, she has managed to make herself indispensable. This coupled with her pedantic arrogance and an overwhelming sense of self-righteousness turns her into a gruesome creature.

Her constant verbal diarrhea, and what some claim to be her superior intelligence over her other counterparts in the cabinet, makes her a crafty player that can spit fire at others with contempt.

She is now at her acme, for neither the cabinet nor Parliament let alone her past and present masters can contain her.

In the past Mahathir used to exploit her talents as his sidekick, especially in barking back at his own detractors. Pak Lah made the mistake of retaining a few Mahathir-created monsters in his team and in the process allowed them to sidetrack his agenda for the people.

All the king's men and all the kings' detractors cannot slay the dragon thus far, putting the people of Malaysia in a state of confusion and odium. Pak Lah as, the Malay saying goes, has a big 'arang terconteng dimuka' which he does not have the capacity to erase.

It now looks as though Pak Lah will never have any inspiration to reshuffle his cabinet for a long while. With so many cracks and precariously dangling issues both in Umno and the component parties of the BN, perhaps it is best for him to leave it to God to intervene.

Meanwhile, let us pray so that everything goes well for the people of Malaysia.
