Naelofar Hijab, a fashion firmed owned by celebrity Neelofa Mohd Noor, has apologised for launching her new line headscarves at a nightclub.

In a statement today, the firm said it "sincerely apologises" to their customers and everyone who was "severely affected" by the incident.

The launch of the product - widely seen in Malaysia as an integral part of female Muslim attire - in Zouk, Malaysia's most famous nightclub - has attracted criticism from Muslim groups.

The firm said it had chosen Zouk as the venue because of the facilities offered and precautionary measures were made to ensure that all alcohol brandings, bottles, glasses and cutleries were removed.

"The access to the bar and other clubs were also sealed and smoking was not allowed during the event.

"We also hired an external caterer that served halal food. All the glasses and cutleries that were used by all the guests were also provided by the caterer," said the company's managing director Noor Nabila Mohd Noor.

Some netizens had criticised Neelofa following several video clips depicting the gyration of dancers clad in headscarves during the launch.

"When a man sees (such dancers) they will naik syahwat (turned on). When I saw the video, saya jadi stim (I was turned on). I don't understand why Neelofa did that," said one commentator, Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, who is better known by the moniker Papagomo.
