Pakatan Harapan will likely announce its Penang seat allocation for the coming polls at an event to mark the federal opposition's 10-year rule in the state.

State Harapan chief Lim Guan Eng is expected to put to rest speculation concerning the number of seats to be contested by each component party at tonight's celebrations, which will be held in Padang Kota Lama.

Besides Lim, Harapan heavyweights including chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his deputy Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will also be in attendance.

It was reported last month that seat negotiations in the state had reached a deadlock, and had been referred back to the coalition’s presidential council.

DAP will receive no additional seats, and will contest the 19 seats it contested and won in 2013.

According to a source, Bersatu will contest in the Malay heartland of Penaga, Bertam, Permatang Berangan on the mainland, and Teluk Bahang on the island.

Teluk Bahang was previously contested by PKR, while Penaga and Permatang Berangan were contested by PAS. All three seats were won by Umno in 2013.

Although Amanah had requested to contest in Penaga and Permatang Berangan, it has now given up those seats to Bersatu.

Umno currently holds 10 seats in the state, a seat less than it won in 2008.

PKR, who won 10 of the 16 seats it contested in GE13, had earlier stated that it was willing to share two seats with its new allies Amanah and Bersatu.

The party will now contest in 14 seats, namely Teluk Air Tawar, Pinang Tunggal, Seberang Jaya, Penanti, Machang Bubok, Bukit Tengah, Bukit Tambun, Sungai Bakap and Sungai Acheh on the mainland, as well as Kebun Bunga, Batu Uban, Pantai Jerjak, Batu Maung and Pulau Betong on the island.

Amanah failed to obtain the five seats it requested for, but managed to get Sungai Dua, Permatang Pasir and Bayan Lepas, the latter two contested by PAS in the last polls.

PAS only managed to capture Permatang Pasir in the 2008 and 2013 elections, out of the five seats it contested in each. PAS also battled with PKR and Umno in Sungai Acheh in a three-cornered fight, which saw the seat go to the latter.

A Penang Harapan leader confirmed the seat allocation, but urged all parties to "wait for the announcement later."
