Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's administration today launched the maiden annual report for its various transformation plans, burnishing its delivery record as the elections draw near.

In a statement, the Prime Minister's Department said the national transformation plans (NTP) developed in 2010 had achieved far more than what was initially targetted.

It said that the KPI achievement for the NTP's seven National Key Result Areas (NKRAs), 12 National Key Economic Areas (NKEAs) and five Strategic Reform Initiatives (SRIs) was 111 percent, 109 percent and 119 percent respectively.

The department did not elaborate on how these figures were derived.

The report said Gross National Income had increased and the NTP had created 2.68 million new jobs while investment had surpassed the RM1.4 trillion target.

The poverty rate was 0.4 percent as of 2016, down from 3.8 percent in 2009, with the Bottom 40 (B40) income group recording the highest growth in household income.

"Overall, Malaysians have experienced an increase in household income between 2009 and 2016.

"The mean monthly household income has increased to RM6,958 in 2016 from RM4,025 in 2009, representing a compounded annual growth rate of 8.1 percent," said the department.

Other achievements include:

  • the completion of the MRT Line 1 project ahead of time and the building or upgrading of 6,868km of roads,

  • disbursement of RM6.31 billion in BR1M payments to 7.22 million families and individuals,

  • Malaysia emerging as the world's third-largest producer of solar PV cells,

  • the passing of various laws to benefit workers, and

  • the creation of RM122.2 billion in business opportunities since 2011.

Next target - 2050

The department's statement appears to suggest that next phase of the government's NTP was aimed at the year 2050.

"The results demonstrate the government's delivery of promises made when the NTP was launched in 2009.

"Going forward, the government remains committed to steering the country towards the completion of the transformation.

"(This will) now be led by the Civil Service Delivery Unit (CSDU) in the Prime Minister's Department and into Malaysia's next phase of growth to be crystallised by the Transformasi Nasional 2050 (TN50)," it said.
