BN will rid Kelantan of gambling and meth, says DPM

GE14 | BN wants to get rid of gambling activities in Kelantan by “100 percent” if the people give the mandate to the coalition to rule the state in the 14th general election.

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the commitment served to dismiss allegations by certain quarters that BN would condone gambling activities should the coalition come back in power in Kelantan.

“I, as the Home Minister, am instructing Kelantan police chief Hasanuddin Hassan and his deputy Din Ahmad to take down gambling activities 100 percent.

“This is my commitment, this is my promise. I will not compromise when it comes to faith and religion,” he said at the ‘An Evening with Deputy Prime Minister’ programme which was attended by over 10,000 people in Machang today.

Also present were International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed, who is also Kelantan BN chairperson; and Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub, who is also Machang MP.

Zahid said police were now conducting a special operation, dubbed “Ops Dadu,” to curb gambling activities nationwide.

He said the instruction on the operations was not just a directive to Bukit Aman but also to all state police contingents and district police headquarters.

“I will not compromise if there are police personnel conspiring with any gambling tauke (boss) or syndicate… Action will definitely be taken (against the policemen),” he said.

No more ‘pil kuda’

Zahid said the BN-led government is also committed to going all out to fight the use of ‘pil kuda’ (methamphetamine) as Kelantan recorded the highest number of trafficking cases for the drug.

“Although the index crime in Kelantan has dropped, BN will ensure that it dips further once the coalition takes over (the state's administration) so that the people in Kelantan will feel safer,” he said.

Meanwhile, Zahid said that he believed that BN would retain the Machang parliamentary seat and wrest the three state state seats – namely Pulai Chondong, Temangan and Kemuning under it – from PAS in GE14, based on the spirit of the people in Machang to change.

At the event, the deputy prime minister announced a RM6.5 million allocation to implement various development and rehabilitation projects covering mosques, schools and homes of the poor.
