Yoursay: Bersatu's dissolution may backfire on Umno

YOURSAY | 'It will not only cause an electoral backlash but unite the opposition.'

Bersatu files judicial review over ROS' provisional dissolution move

Anonymous 2436471476414726: Registrar of Societies (ROS) director-general Surayati Ibrahim's decision to temporarily dissolve Bersatu on the eve of the dissolution of Parliament is of perfect timing.

GE14 is likely to be held within the next 30 days, during which time Bersatu would be forcibly dissolved. It cannot be mere coincidence. This clearly had been planned by the powers-that-be as soon as former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad and company decided to form Bersatu.

It's another example of abuse of power by BN.

Fair Play: As I understand it, once a judicial review has been duly filed, ROS cannot enforce its decision until the court has heard both parties and made a decision.

In the meantime, Dr M is right, nothing changes and it's not over until it is over.

Cogito Ergo Sum: The civil service is to serve the public to ensure fair and equitable distribution of wealth and rights. By being partisan, the ROS has failed in its duties. The people want a political representation that represents their ambitions and aspirations.

The ROS, instead of encouraging and facilitating this hope, is quelling and dousing the rakyat’s pleas for a better tomorrow. This is absurd. Your duty, ROS, is to look at the big picture.

Vgeorgemy: ROS has failed in its public duty to assist Bersatu to play an important role in a functioning democracy.

Harapan must ensure ROS becomes the tool to celebrate diversity in our way of life once they assume power in Putrajaya.

Bright Light: Every civil servant must be reminded that their job is to serve the rakyat, not Umno, which just happens to be the government of the day right now. Umno cannot last forever; its time will come one day.

And when there is a change of government, they could be charged with abuse of power and conspiracy, and have their pensions stripped.

Meantime, those abusing their powers are being cursed by millions of Malaysians. Shame on them.

Anticonmen: It's the same modus operandi and culture of hobbling others who are viewed as a threat or competition, which had been practised by Mahathir for decades.

He was forever afraid of competition and is now reaping what he had sowed.

Rais smells something fishy in ROS' announcement on Bersatu

VGV: Former Umno ministers Rais Yatim and Rafidah Aziz are the only people who are asking ROS to "speak truthfully" on Bersatu's provisional dissolution. They suspect a "hidden hand" behind ROS who is working as a stooge by giving unnecessary trouble to Bersatu.

No wonder Rais Yatim could smell something "fishy".

HaveAGreatDay: Yes, it stinks to high heavens, Rais! But it's nothing new really - the Umnoputras have been at it since Dr M's 22-year dictatorial rule. Yes, it is just desserts for Dr M to feel the injustice being meted out to him and his party now.

I hope and pray that they can overcome the odds against them, and at the very least, deny Malaysian Official 1 (MO1) a two-thirds majority in Parliament.

NNFC: Look at the timing of these announcements from ROS. Just before dissolution of Parliament. Of course, it is meant to damage the chances of the opposition.

Najib has said they would not cheat. But what is ROS and the Election Commission (EC) doing?

6th Generation Immigrant: Surely Rafidah and Rais still possess some clout within Umno.

Can't they call for an immediate extraordinary general meeting (EGM) in Umno to question the current leadership, which is leading the party astray, so much so that every law, every depravity ordered and every statement made is actually relegating Umno to a certain death?

The current Umno leaders are truly and blatantly taking the rakyat for granted. The people will wake up and rebel soon enough if all these shenanigans do not cease.

Abd.Karim: ROS' behaviour might be a blessing in disguise. Probably the anger among rakyat, who clearly see injustice being done, may prove to work in favour of the opposition.

Dr M: Business as usual for Bersatu as ROS appeal proceeds

Anonymous_b3cdcd05: The ROS' actions on Bersatu’s registration is most bewildering and incomprehensible.

Not only has the director-general been sitting on Harapan's application, whenever the issue is raised, she gives some lame reasons and slides back into hibernation until the matter is raised again.

Why is she so indifferent and why does she make it so difficult to merely register a political party? Why won't she work along with the applicants to resolve the matter? Is it some hard-coded rocket science?

More so, when she is aware that the man at the centre is none other than former premier Mahathir himself, that no Malaysian worth his salt would not stand up to give a helping hand?

What is most disappointing is that the ROS’ conduct is very unlike how a civil servant is supposed to perform her duties - in an efficient, productive and proactive manner.

She seems to arrogate more than to be helpful. She looks like a God-fearing woman, and I certainly hope she corrects her ways, unless of course she has compromised herself as a tool of her political masters.

That would be the biggest mistake of her life, as she will one day no longer answer to her earthly masters, but to the heavenly almighty on her fateful day of reckoning. May God have mercy.

Kim Quek: Najib has underestimated the instinctive sense of natural justice of all the Malaysian people.

Such dirty tactics, coming one after another in such quick succession to ram through our throats – the redelineation, anti-fake news law, and now dissolution of a political opponent - will surely incur the wrath of all decent Malaysians.

Najib will learn a lesson he will never forget. It will not only cause a massive electoral backlash, but will also unite and spur the opposition to fight back like never before.

Sleepy: “Mahathir said, ‘Bersatu’s candidates for the upcoming general election will also be unaffected by the party’s status, as it has been agreed that all Pakatan Harapan component parties will contest under one banner, that is PKR’s.’”

This paragraph alone, even for an Independent candidate, removes much of the confusion people have about his motives, while also indicating that Bersatu is moving in the right direction.

Fair Play: Push even the weakest person back against the wall, and he or she will eventually fight back. Sooner or later, the right-thinking rakyat will have to cross the Rubicon. GE14 is the time.
