GE14 | Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is banking on a 'Malay tsunami' to sweep the opposition coalition to power, said tomorrow's election provides a chance for Malays to redeem their pride.

“For the Malays, this election is not merely about seeking victory for a political party but to redeem the pride of the race.

“Our parents had fought to free us from the shackles of colonialism, and our pride was redeemed, and we became a race who could determine their own future,” he added.

The former premier said Malaysia would have achieved developed nation status by 2020 were it not for caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.

"Unfortunately, the governance of the sixth prime minister has brought a catastrophe. Be it race, country or religion, Najib believes everything can be bought with money.

"Now, our country is no longer known as the 'Tiger of Asia'. The world looks down on us and lists us as one of the top 10 most corrupt countries.

"We are no longer acknowledged as a democracy. Instead, we are known as a kleptocracy - a country of the corrupt and thieves," he added.

According to Mahathir, the country's honour can only be restored with a change of government.

"It needs to be replaced with a government where power is limited and cannot abuse its power like now.

"For that, we need to defeat Najib, BN and Umno, which Najib has ruined," he added.

Mahathir also emphasised that the opposition, under his leadership, was a viable government-in-waiting.

"It is not easy to defeat the government party. Everything rests upon the people and the opposition coalition.

"Only if the people realise the damage Najib has caused as prime minister... The people's realisation must be translated into votes for good," he said.
