GE14 | Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad has announced that he will be sworn in as Malaysia's seventh prime minister later today.

"We're going to have the swearing in ceremony of the prime minister.

"Then the prime minister at his leisure may appoint his deputy prime minister and the other ministers," he told a press conference at around 3am to declare Pakatan Harapan's victory – unofficial at the time – against BN after winning over 112 parliament seats nationwide.

Mahathir also said Harapan has followed the due process to declare victory, once their own counting revealed that they reached the minimum 112 seats needed to form a simple majority in Parliament.

"The palace contacted us because they heard we achieved the majority, but it has not been officially announced," said Mahathir who added that Harapan was also requested to inform the palace of their victory.

With Harapan's victory, Mahathir said he would have an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong, together with PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Harapan’s designated deputy prime minister candidate.

"At this moment we don't have a prime minister just yet, until he swears, but not that kind of swear," he joked.

"After prime minister is sworn in, then he may appoint his deputy and other ministers," he added.

Mahathir also announced that Harapan would fulfil its promise of a two-day holiday for today and Friday.
