Yoursay: ‘No one should undergo similar treatment as Anwar’

YOURSAY | 'Differences in opinion should be dealt with professionally.’

Dr M: Agong has indicated 'immediate pardon' for Anwar

David Dass: It is good that the process for obtaining PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim's pardon is being fast-tracked. He has suffered enough. Anwar should be freed and after his pardon slowly come back to mainstream politics.

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad should be prime minister for at least two years. Anwar will need to be rehabilitated. That will take time.

Mahathir has a responsibility to the rakyat. He was not elected as a stop-gap measure. His stature and experience are required at this point in time.

There is much to be done. And we can expect continued pressure on the party from external foes. There will also be internal conflicts that will have to be managed.

This a crucial time in our history. We are in uncharted territory. The maturity, wisdom and experience of Mahathir will be required along with that of DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang and Anwar.

There are many young leaders in the new government. They will watch and learn. Their youth and energy will also be required. The rakyat will support them.

But no side-steps, no excursions, no frolics, no side business and no projects to friends. Just go through an open-tender process.

Apa Nama: Yes, Mahathir, after this, no one in Malaysia should undergo similar treatment as Anwar. Let him be the last one.

I believe all Malaysians should be treated equally and justly. Differences in political opinion should be dealt with professionally and through cheap conspiracy to bring down a person.

Let Anwar contribute to this beloved land. He should be having a lot of ideas, as we know, and all these should not go to waste.

Trueglitter: The voice of the nation’s conscience has been heard, resulting in the immediate pardon and release of Anwar from jail at the order of the Agong.

The jubilations at the said announcement along with the accompaniment of loud cheers from the gathering crowds have signals that the machinery of Pakatan Harapan will now be well equipped with a “renewed engine” that will propel it to greater heights of its achievements.

The release of Anwar is a resounding cum opportune victory for all the fair-thinking citizens, particularly for Anwar himself who have had endured so much and so long at the menacing and relentless hands of those in power, particularly former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak whose intention was to incarcerate him long enough to render him unable to partake in the “mother of all polls”.

The embattled Najib may have been successful to snuff out a single voice whilst Anwar was in prison but to his greatest political shock and grieve, he has not been able to contain the collective might and loud voices of the angry people who have deservedly condemned him and his cronies to the cesspit of defeat of their own making.

The long-trodden citizens are understandably heartened and reassured the formidable leadership of the relevant parties comprising, Bersatu, Amanah, DAP and PKR are adequately blessed and enhanced with the time-tested cum capable leadership acumen and expertise to be able to create a new and glorious dawn for Malaysia and its citizens.

Anonymous 459: What a shameful reflection of our judiciary, the prosecution and our system of checks and balances.

Wasn’t Anwar's pardon sought by his family as soon as he was jailed, and the king of the day said no swiftly?

At that time, any pardon process would take ages even to be heard. Let’s not have double standards for the rakyat - the powerful and connected of all races get the cream and the rakyat would be lucky to get the crumbs.

BuatApa?: Good show. It'll be good to see out of Najib's (and once Mahathir's) prison. Let's not forget what Mahathir did to Anwar, how he persecuted him and his family for years. That was barbaric.

That said, I can only think of two people - Mahathir and Anwar - who can head the new regime and improve four critical elements: unquestionable governance standards; accountable government; responsible government; and separation of powers.

There can be no compromise on these.

AG in PM's crosshairs: Dr M claims Apandi hid evidence of wrongdoing

Anonymous 2436471476414726: Reading the comments in Malaysiakini, it is obvious emotions are running high. Many are baying for blood especially that of the attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali.

For the sake of our country, please keep your emotion in check and allow Mahathir and his team to do the necessary at their own pace and in their own style.

Nevertheless, the following should tender their resignation immediately without waiting to be sacked.

These are, but not limited to, Apandi, Election Commission chairperson Mohd Hashim Abdullah, Registrar of Societies director-general Suriyati Ibrahim, MACC chief Dzulkifli Ahmad, former inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar (from whatever position he now holds), chief justice Md Raus Sharif, Court of Appeal president Zulkefli Ahmad Makinudin, 1MDB CEO Arul Kanda and Treasury secretary-general Irwan Serigar.

FairMind: Mahathir should not be a "man in a hurry" to right all the wrongs. He should be patient and do it step by step.

The first step is to appoint a new MACC chief to re-evaluate the discriminating evidence. Only then go back and say Apandi hid evidence.

Anonymous 459: Former judge Gopal Sri Ram and DAP’s Gobind Singh Deo are the most suitable of the lot to be attorney-general. But, first, get him to clear his own dirt or else they will say that Harapan had been partial.

Call in the AG and ask him to explain the 1MDB case, the RM2.6 billion donation, SRC pocketing, hunt for Jho Low, the other few officials of 1MDB, and many more.

Anonymous_534b7352: Dear Apandi, redeem yourself now by resigning and handing in yourself to the authority for full disclosure of what you know. You will be judged in the court of law and sentenced accordingly.

This is much better than a life of running away from the authorities if you choose to run because there is no more hiding now.

Your full cooperation with the authorities leading to the capture of all corrupt politicians may lessen your personal sentence.

Cooperate now before it is too late. Don’t regret this for the rest of your life.
