The Yang di-Pertuan Agong has granted an audience to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad over the cabinet list.

According to a source from the Prime Minister's Office, Mahathir will present his list to the King at 5pm today.

"His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has granted an audience with the prime minister at 5pm today.

"He will submit the names for the cabinet to His Majesty," said the source.

Mahathir was sworn in as the nation's seventh prime minister on May 10 and has since been fine-tuning his cabinet list with his Pakatan Harapan coalition partners.

Thus far, Mahathir has announced cabinet appointments for the finance, home affairs, defence, education and women's affairs portfolios.

The first 13 members of Mahathir's cabinet are expected to be sworn in on Monday.

According to the source, Mahathir is expected to announce more names for his cabinet this weekend.

Mahathir has pledged to keep his cabinet lean and reduce the numbers from 35 ministries previously.

For a start, Mahathir said he would be seeking 25 cabinet members.
