Perak sultan consents to ex-Umno rep's appointment as MB's advisor

The Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah has consented to the appointment of former Perak state executive councilor Zainol Fadzi Paharudin as an advisor to the menteri besar.

Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu said the appointment was also due to the negotiations with component party leaders in Pakatan Harapan, namely DAP, PKR, Amanah and Bersatu.

“This appointment is not my own personal thing but the result of negotiations among the four component party leaders,” he told reporters after meeting the European Union’s ambassadors and heads of diplomatic mission in Malaysia in Ipoh today.

Faizal, who is also Perak Bersatu chairperson, was commenting on news about party members who objected to Zainol’s appointment.

In the 14th general election, Zainol contested on the BN ticket and won the Sungai Manik state legislative assembly seat, but soon expressed support for the Harapan to enable the coalition to secure a mandate to form the state government.

On May 14, Zainol officially joined Bersatu after submitting a membership form to Faizal.

Commenting further, Faizal admitted that in an administration there would be parties that would disagree with the decision made.

“However, be assured of every decision we made are for the benefit of the party, the people and Perak state,” he said, adding that there was no need to change the decision on Zainol’s appointment.
