Sungai Tua assemblyperson Amirudin Shari was spotted at Istana Alam Shah in Klang this evening, a day before the slated swearing in of the new Selangor menteri besar.

According to Sinar Harian, he was seen leaving the palace at 6.30pm.

This came amid long-time speculations that Amirudin will be the likely successor to Azmin Ali.

Palace sources told Malaysiakini that Amirudin had gone to the palace for the swearing in rehearsal.

Earlier, Amiruddin attended Azmin's farewell ceremony as the latter clocked out of the Selangor state secretariat office for the last time.

Azmin did not reveal the name of his successor, but expressed confidence that the person would be capable of leading the state.

Azmin, who was the menteri besar since Sept 2014, is leaving to take up a position in the federal government.

He will be leading the Economic Affairs Ministry, which will oversee various important government-linked companies holding a vast amount of assets including Khazanah.

The new Selangor menteri besar is expected to be sworn in tomorrow morning.
