Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has criticised a decision by the Rural and Regional Development Minister Rina Harun to distribute grants to villages in Pakatan Harapan-led states.

Describing it as going against Harapan’s principles, he hoped Rina would reconsider the move.

“I ask that the minister change this decision, it is contradictory to Pakatan Harapan’s principles.

“We should be a government for all – people from Pakatan Harapan, BN, PAS, GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) and those without any parties,” he tweeted tonight.

The Harapan youth chief also said in a follow-up tweet that there was no longer any need to differentiate between Harapan and opposition-led states.

Earlier today, Rina announced that RM100 million in grants had been set aside for villages in all states, save for BN-led Perlis and Pahang, PAS-led Kelantan and Terengganu, as well as GPS-led Sarawak.

The money is meant for programmes to enhance the wellbeing of villages, and is limited to RM10,000 per village per annum.

“Out of some 16,418 villages nationwide, 10,000 will be able to get the grants.

“We are currently analysing the mechanism on how to disburse the grants to villages in opposition states, which requires up to a month of study,” she was reported as saying in the Malay Mail.

Rina had also announced that the present Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) in villages would from now on be known as the Village Community Development Council.
