C4: Legislate asset declaration to be consistent, compelling

Asset declaration for lawmakers should be made into a law to ensure it is a consistent and compelling policy, the Center to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4) said today.

While it commended the government's announcement that it will make it compulsory for elected representatives from the ruling coalition to declare their assets, C4 said such a move needed to be legislated as well.

"That law is very important because when the prime minister changes and there is no law to actually compel them to declare their assets, then the next prime minister can change it back and say there is no need to declare assets...
