PAS information chief Nasrudin Hassan claimed a series of appointments made by the Pakatan Harapan government in relation to the country's legal system has sparked restlessness among Muslims.

He said this in reference to the appointment of senior judge Richard Malanjum as chief justice yesterday, as well as Liew Vui Keong as de facto law minister and Tommy Thomas as attorney-general.

"The control of the three positions of the legal system and judiciary by figures that cause restlessness (keresahan) among Muslims is now complete," Nasrudin said in a statement today.

He said Harapan had "broken the record" by appointing the first non-Muslim chief justice since 1963, the post that was then known as Lord President.

He also claimed that Malanjum's track record had shown that he was not on the side of Islam in key cases.

"What more will Muslims witness after this? Islam was already in a shaky position under BN and it is now apparent that the so-called change (in government) is in a direction that is worse.

"Is this a situation where Muslims escape the mouth of the tiger only to be attacked by a crocodile?" he asked.

Nasrudin questioned if Islam would be defended in the legal system in light of the latest appointments and he went on to accuse Harapan of turning a blind eye to the concerns of Muslims.

He also questioned the resignation of Md Raus Sharif as chief justice yesterday, which was earlier than his intended resignation date of July 31.

"Was Md Raus forced to resign immediately?... Does it mean that there was government interference in the judiciary system?" Nasrudin further asked.
