A security guard who was allegedly beaten by the police while under remand for eight days, was freed on bail this afternoon by the Petaling Jaya Magistrate's Court.

Ling Kong Seng, 51, claims to have sustained a bruised right eye and cuts across his head at the Kelana Jaya police station. The wound across his head was held together by four stitches. A picture of his heavily-bruised eye was published by several newspapers today.

He was freed on aa RM5,000 police bail posted by his employers. He is expected to be charged on Dec 15. According to his counsel P Uthayakumar, he was arrested by three plainclothes policemen on Nov 20 while having a meal in Ampang.

He was later brought to the Kelana Jaya police station in Petaling Jaya where the alleged beating took place.

The police station falls under the same district where alleged abuse of several female Chinese nationals and the nude ear-squat video episode took place.

DAP's NGO Bureau Chief Ronnie Liu, who accompanied Ling to the court, said that Ling would be advised to have a medical examination done before making a police report on the alleged beating.

Conspiracy claim

Uthayakumar said that Ling was 'terrified' when visited at the Kelana Jaya police station lock-up several days ago. At that time, Ling told the Uthayakumar that his injuries were sustained from 'a fall'.

"In England, 95 percent of detainees are released from remand within 24 hours. That is because their police investigates first before making an arrest. However, Ling was probably remanded for eight days for the injuries to heal," said Uthayakumar.

Ling appeared shaken as he was helped in and out of the courtroom and refused to address reporters directly. He was later seen hugging his colleagues and thanking Uthayakumar and Liu.

Lim Keng Siew, who runs the construction company that employs Ling, said that previously, four of his security guards had been arrested and remanded at the same police station.

Lim claimed that his business rivals might be in cahoots with corrupt police personnel in order to intimidate him.

Uthayakumar and Liu both said they would arrange for Ling to meet with the Parliamentary Human Rights Caucus soon.
