PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has won the party president's post uncontested at the close of nominations for central party positions at 5pm today.

The deputy president's race, meanwhile, will see a straight fight between incumbent Azmin Ali and Rafizi Ramli.

Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari seconded Azmin's nomination papers, filed by Gombak Setia assemblyperson Hilman Idham.

"At about 4.45pm today, I submitted the nomination papers on behalf of Azmin to defend his deputy president's post in this party polls," he told reporters. 

Earlier this morning, Rafizi had also submitted his nominations via a representative.

Other leaders who submitted their nominations through representatives included Anwar, Nurul Izzah and incumbent PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin.

At a press conference later, PKR elections committee secretary Ismail Yusof confirmed that Anwar has unofficially won the president's post uncontested.

"Unofficially there is no contest for the president's post. So we can say that he has won.

"But we have our procedures and the names of all contenders (for the remaining positions) will have to be verified by the committee," he explained.

Ismail said all the names submitted today will be put on display at the party's headquarters, at its state and division offices, as well as on its website, for three days from Aug 8.

"There will be a three-day objection period and a three-day appeal period before the final list of names is announced," he said.

Once the list has been finalised, Ismail said the next step would be conducted on Aug 19, to draw and assign numbers to each candidate for the e-voting process.

Aside from the president's post and two deputy president contenders, Ismail also announced a list of 12 candidates for four vice-presidents' post, including three incumbents - Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah, Hang Tuah Jaya MP Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin and former Batu MP Tian Chua.

For 20 positions in the party's central leadership council, Ismail said there were 86 names submitted as of 5pm today.

The candidates included Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari and Deputy Rural Development Minister Sivarasa Rasiah.

At the youth wing level, Ismail confirmed that there will be three contenders for the president's and deputy president's posts, seven contenders for vice-president and 49 contenders for the exco positions.

The same number of candidates will also vie for the top positions in the women's wing but with exception of the exco positions which saw 45 names submitted for the 20 positions.
