Amanah will uphold Islam by adopting a new approach that is more dynamic so that the religion and the Muslim community in the country continue to be accepted and respected.

Amanah president Mohamad Sabu said that at present there were too many negative perceptions towards Islam following the antics of certain parties, while Islam is a religion that stresses the aspects of harmony, tolerance and peace.

"... with racial rifts and religious sensitivity conflicts becoming increasingly widespread in this multi-racial, multi-cultural and multi-religious country, the difference of Amanah in appreciating Islam is more significant than the party which was abandoned prior to this.

"We have to manage every difference well. And this is the role of Amanah to ensure that Islamic approaches as rahmatan lil 'alamin (mercy to all creations) is accepted by Malaysians.

"Islam upholds the high values of Shariah and not just emphasises the legal aspects in an old fashion and separate manner, and Amanah will always take an inclusive and productive approach to address the multi-racial demands issues, through this new approach," he said.

He said this in his speech at the opening of the third Anniversary Celebration of Amanah themed ‘Together To Head Changes’ at Dewan Tun Razak in Temerloh today.

Also present were Amanah deputy president, Agriculture Minister Salahuddin Ayub, Amanah vice president and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mujahid Yusuf Rawa and Amanah Communications director and Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad.

He said the party would try to translate Islam in this country into a life that was more harmonious, better administered and safeguarding the fundamental rights of multi-racial communities.

"Sometimes, it is we (the Muslims) who read the Al Quran, but it is others who perform what are being told in the Quran... the people in non-Muslim countries do it.

"For example, the translation of Islamic morals is widely practised by the Japanese, they are more hygienic, non-corrupt, and responsible, when Muslims are killing each other as is happening in Yemen," he said.
