PKR POLLS | Candidate for Wanita PKR chief, Haniza Talha, has called for action against party secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution and the central election committee (JPP) following glitches in the PKR electronic voting system that saw results in a few states being postponed or invalidated.

Haniza, who is the incumbent Wanita PKR deputy chief and Selangor government exco, also questioned Saifuddin's neutrality in the conduct of the party election.

"Repeated warnings by party leaders and members were made to the secretary-general about the new system's capability, transparency and stability but were ignored.

"Now, what was feared has happened and the JPP had no contingency plan and was forced to cancel the election process in several states. This irresponsible action warrants a stern decision by the party leadership against the secretary-general and JPP.

"The JPP should be replaced by an independent body such as (electoral reform group) Bersih to conduct the electoral process," she said in a statement today.

Haniza said Saifuddin should also be neutral in his conduct.

"Wanita PKR is of the view that from henceforth, the secretary-general must be neutral in conducting the party election. He has, for a number of times, seen to express support to certain candidates who are contesting," she said.

The PKR election results in Kedah was invalidated after voters faced technical difficulties with the electronic voting system.

The voting process in other states has also been postponed pending a resolution.

Meanwhile, Machang Bubuk state assemblyperson Lee Khai Loon urged PKR to scrap the electronic voting system.

"I am also proposing that the party appoints former Bersih chairperson (and Petaling Jaya MP) to audit the electoral process.

"I am confident that Maria who is neutral and professional can restore integrity to the election and inspire confidence among party members and Malaysians in PKR," he said.
