A candidate for the PKR central leadership council has been accused of abusing his position as a political secretary to offer contracts and government allocations to local party leaders in Pahang.

PKR Youth coordinator Ahmad Syukri Che Ab Razak, who filed a report with the MACC in Putrajaya this morning, said the person is also contesting for the position of division head.

He claimed that the candidate offered contracts worth RM20,000 and allocations amounting to at least RM300,000 during a meeting with the local leaders on Sept 1.

Syukri said the contracts were for development and infrastructure maintenance, adding that the accused also had links with two other ministries, which allowed him to obtain more allocations.

"I believe the offers were made so that the votes would be in his favour," he added.

However, Syukri declined to reveal details of the accused or the ministries involved.

"On Sept 24, a disappointed party member gave me a pen drive containing pictures and audio recording related to a meeting believed to be chaired by the political secretary.

"The audio duration is 20 minutes. The first half of the audio is crucial as it contains the figures of the offers made by the perpetrator. I'm handing over this evidence to the MACC for their investigation," he said.

Syukri said that the perpetrator claimed that he would be receiving RM300,000 in allocations from another ministry soon, and this amount must be fully spent before the year ends.

"He then said that he will disseminate these funds to those local leaders."

In a statement, Works Minister Baru Bian said he welcomes any investigation by authorities on his ministry, provided that the report is true and has been lodged to the MACC.

“For me, such action if true cannot be tolerated at all, especially so when we have fought so hard against such a corrupt practice. The process of law must take its course,” he said.
