The Negeri Sembilan chapter of Bersatu has been dissolved due to a number of problems, said party president Muhyiddin Yassin.
Also dissolved were the Ampang and Subang divisions in Selangor, he added.
Muhyiddin said this drastic step had been taken upon the advice of the Registrar of Societies.
"There were a lot of problems. The ROS advised us to dissolve (the Negeri Sembilan chapter)... and appoint a new leadership for the state," he told a press conference today.
Muhyiddin was coy when asked for details about the problems faced by Negeri Sembilan Bersatu.
"There were a lot of problems. There were police reports, press conferences... I don't want to share more," he said.
Coincidentally, this comes two days ahead of the nomination process for the Port Dickson by-election.
Muhyiddin said the party had appointed veteran politician Rais Yatim to rebuild Negeri Sembilan Bersatu.
Meanwhile, Bersatu also announced that Marzuki Yahya will replace Shahruddin Md Salleh as secretary-general.
Shahruddin is currently the Sri Gading MP and deputy federal territories minister. Marzuki is a senator and the deputy foreign minister.
Muhyiddin said the party also appointed Eddin Syazlee Shith as the deputy secretary-general. He is the deputy communications and multimedia minister.
The Pagoh MP added that Negeri Sembilan member Nasarudin Mahamut has been sacked but the sacking was not related to the dissolution of the state chapter.
Meanwhile, he said Ampang and Subang divisions will be coordinated by the Selangor chief Abdul Rashid Asari.
"At the Ampang division, many things we asked them to do were not done," he added.
