DAP issues 'final warning' on titles; Umno veep urges rethink on 'crooked bridge'

KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

DAP issues 'final warning' on titles

DAP national organising secretary Anthony Loke warned the party’s Malacca branch chief Tey Kok Kiew that he faces disciplinary action if he escalates his apparent defiance against the party line on members being conferred state awards.

Tey had said at a press conference that DAP should inform state rulers of the party’s stance, to avoid other leaders being reprimanded as he was when conferred the ‘Datuk’ title.

Earlier, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng advised party leaders not to ape their BN counterparts and chase for ‘Datuk’ titles, citing himself as an example of a long-serving leader without any such title.

Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad said his ministry will not recommend politicians for awards in conjunction with Federal Territories Day next year, leaving the honour for those who “truly serve the community.”

Umno veep urges 'crooked bridge' rethink

Umno vice-president and former Johor menteri besar Mohamed Khaled Nordin said it is 'shocking' that the government is mulling the revival of the 'crooked bridge' in the state, given the country's fiscal situation.

Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali said the statement on reviving the 'crooked bridge' project was just Johor Menteri Besar Osman Sapian’s proposal, and yet to be brought before Putrajaya.

Johor DAP chief Liew Chin Tong said building a third bridge linking the state to Singapore would be more important than replacing the Causeway with the 'crooked bridge’.

Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak said he had previously tried and failed to convince Singapore to demolish the Johor Causeway in favour of a new bridge to suit the current era.
