The Johor royal family has expanded their own affordable housing scheme to Mersing, with homes in the new project ranging from RM70,000 to RM200,000.
The Rumah Impian Bangsa Johor homes, which will either be single-storey or double-storey terraces, can be purchased by first-time owners from the state who are either the eldest or only children in their families, and earning under RM5,000.
"The Johor sultan decrees a fair distribution among Malays, Chinese and Indians. His Majesty intends to build a strong social spirit," read a statement on the Facebook page of Johor crown prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.
The scheme is under the auspices of the Sultan Ibrahim Foundation.
Besides affordable homes, the statement said various amenities will be provided under the project.
"The people will receive amenities such as a multipurpose hall, a park, shops and a motel which will be built and funded by the Johor sultan and the crown prince," it said.
Applicants will be vetted through a stringent computerised system by the state economic planning unit.
The selection committee will include the state secretary and board members of the Sultan Ibrahim Foundation.
The foundation had previously launched the Rumah Impian Bangsa Johor in Johor Bahru in 2017.
