PKR POLLS | PKR deputy president candidate Mohamed Azmin Ali's allies are dominating in the central leadership council race just as the PKR election enters the second half.

With less than half of PKR members left to vote, Azmin's allies are dominating 15 out of the 20 central leadership posts, according to the Malaysiakini tally.

Malaysiakini, which developed the PKR election tracker, introduced a new feature to track the central leadership council race following requests from readers.

The remaining five candidates in the top 20 are aligned to Azmin's challenger Mohd Rafizi Ramli.

The 20 candidates with the most votes at the end of the election on Nov 20 will become the new central leadership council committee members. A total of 88 candidates are vying for the positions.

Azmin's and Rafizi's allies were determined based on the list of endorsed candidates issued to supporters by both groups.

Among the frontrunners In Azmin's camp are Selangor Menteri Besar Amiruddin Shari (29,455 votes), Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Mohd Rashid Hasnon (28,817 votes), Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister R Sivarasa (26,676 votes), Bukit Lanjan assemblyperson Elizabeth Wong (23,642) and Zakaria Abdul Hamid, the political secretary to the works minister (23,442 votes).

The frontrunners aligned to Rafizi are Kapar MP Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid (22,619 votes), Setiawangsa MP Nik Ahmad (19,985 votes), Merbok MP Nor Azrina Surip @ Nurin Aina (18,155 votes), PKR training bureau strategic director Zaliha Mustafa (17,855 votes) and Julau MP Larry Soon @ Larry Sng (17,658 votes).

While many of Azmin's allies have an unassailable lead in the central leadership council contest, Azmin himself is facing a strong challenge from Rafizi.

In the last polling last weekend, Azmin took a slight edge over Rafizi, with 34,383 votes to 33,122 votes.

Azmin had been widening his lead in the last two weeks as divisions in Selangor, his home base, went to the polls.

The third and last round of voting will take place this weekend but it includes Rafizi's home division of Pandan, for which he was formerly the MP. Also voting this weekend is Perak.

Kedah will also be holding fresh elections over two days starting tomorrow, after the previous round of voting was plagued by technical problems.

Check out the full PKR central leadership council standing on Malaysiakini's PKR election tracker site.

Don't forget to also check back tomorrow, as the results of the first day of voting in Kedah come in.
