PKR POLLS | Seven PKR divisions in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Malacca are to hold re-elections on Nov 11, according to a news report.

The Berita Harian report today said the seven are Kuala Selangor, Jelebu, Alor Gajah, Masjid Tanah, Tangga Batu, Kota Melaka, and Jasin.

Party central election committee (JPP) chief Rashid Din (above) was quoted as saying that Kuala Selangor and Jelebu will be holding fresh elections.

For the five affected divisions in Malacca, only members who have yet to vote would be recalled to vote again.

Rashid reportedly said that the JPP would make various preparations to ensure that there would be no further problems in the coming election.

“We have learnt a lot from the over 12 state elections conducted so far and have tried to correct every one of our shortcomings. We learn from mistakes,” he reportedly told Berita Harian.

As for allegations that the election on Kuala Selangor that was supposed to take place on Sunday had been "sabotaged" through the use of a mobile phone jammer, Rashid said the incident was regrettable.

He said the police are still investigating the case, and disciplinary action would be taken if PKR members are found to be involved.

“Based on the Kuala Selangor case, we do not discount the possibility that several other cases of internet problems at polling centres were due to certain parties placing these jammers.

“For the election in these seven divisions, we would ensure no more jammers are used,” he was quoted as saying.

He also reportedly disclosed “dirty tricks” being used in Ampang and Pandan where party members attempted to reuse Quick Response Codes (QR Codes) issued for the election, but the attempts had been detected and the members were not allowed to vote.

As for the upcoming polling in Sabah and Sarawak, he said it would proceed as planned – Nov 3 and 4 for Sabah; Nov 10 for Sarawak.

PKR is the only political party in this country that allows all members to directly vote on the central party leadership, but the election process had been beset with problems.

These include allegations of money politics, violence, and technical problems with its newly introduced e-voting system.

In the Malacca and Negeri Sembilan party election, 2,000 votes were found to have gone missing. This was due to a weak internet connection, which meant that the e-voting system was unable to store data in cloud storage systems.
