The parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has confirmed that the first session of its proceedings on the 1MDB scandal was postponed yesterday upon the advice of attorney-general Tommy Thomas.

"On Oct 25, I received a letter from the attorney-general Tommy Thomas who suggested that PAC should postpone sine die (our) proceeding related to 1MDB," said PAC chairperson Ronald Kiandee in a statement today.

"After discussing with PAC members, several PAC members and I had a meeting with the Dewan Rakyat speaker Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof to inform him about the matter," he said.

"Following the discussion, PAC will engage in a meeting with the attorney-general soon to discuss in detail about the issue," said the BN Beluran parliamentarian.

However, Kiandee did not reveal the reason put forward by the attorney-general for suggesting the postponement of the 1MDB proceedings.

Earlier today, Malaysiakini quoted a source as saying that Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) had expressed concerns to the PAC that the latter's proceedings could affect the ongoing criminal trial involving 1MDB.

In August, the Dewan Rakyat approved the re-opening of investigations into the 1MDB scandal by the PAC and National Audit Department (NAD).

PAC's investigation into 1MDB was slated to begin yesterday, with former auditor-general Ambrin Buang called to testify.

Investigations into the 1MDB scandal had taken place when NAD was helmed by Ambrin (photo) from February 2006 to February 2017.

Under the previous administration, Dewan Rakyat barred 1MDB issues, particularly those related to the civil suit brought by the US Department of Justice, from being raised in the House, citing sub judice.

This decision caused an uproar from the then opposition and civil society.
