Nicole Wong Siaw Ting (above) has become the first women MCA Youth chief following the party polls last night.

She garnered 136 electoral votes in a straight fight with Ng Kian Nam, who only managed to obtain 82 votes.

MCA Youth wing was set up in 1955 and comprised all male members. Wong, 30, became its first woman youth vice-chairperson when the wing was eventually opened to women in 2013.

For the deputy chief post, her running-mate Tan Chee Hiong garnered 146 votes while Kang Choo Nge bagged 72.

The official results for the youth wing polls were only released at 11.50pm yesterday at Wisma MCA.

However, the party recorded a dismal delegate voter turnout of 38.64 percent.

There are 149 divisions comprising 8,337 delegates who are eligible to vote, but the low turnout showed only 3,221 delegates had come out to vote.

A total of 47 candidates fought for 31 youth posts - chairperson, deputy chairperson, four vice-chairpersons and 25 central committee members.

Meanwhile, there is no contest for the entire Wanita national line-up with incumbent chief Heng Seai Kie returning unopposed while her new deputy is Wong You Fong.

The four vice-chairpersons are Wang Kim Lean, Lim Nget Yoon, Chiew Hong Lan and Pamela Yong.
