Surau, petrol station suffer damages in KL flash floods

The flash floods which hit the capital yesterday caused several premises including Surau Al-Falah at the Hiliran Ampang People's Housing Project (PPR) near Kuala Lumpur to suffer serious damage.

The surau's chief imam and adviser Kamal Ahmad Amin, 55, when met by Bernama said the flood water had damaged the carpets and audio system equipment, making it difficult to carry out prayers.

"This has been the worst flash floods faced by us in the past 14 years," he said when met today.

Kamal Ahmad, however, thanked the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) for immediately helping out to clean the affected areas.

"We are grateful to the parties that helped, and would like to request for assistance to change the carpets and PA system to facilitate prayer activities," he said.

Bernama's survey also found that the heavy downpour yesterday had affected several areas and routes around Kampung Pandan, Jalan Pudu Ulu, Jalan Pudu Perdana, Jalan Cheras and Jalan Kepong.

A Shell petrol station along Jalan Kampung Pandan was forced to shut down operations after the water had reached the ankle-level at the premises.

According to operations manager Farah Nadia Ahmad, 34, this was the first time the petrol station had to be closed due to security concerns.

"This is the first flash flood that has occurred in our 10 years of operation here, and it has resulted in losses of about RM80,000.

"We had to close down the business premises to avoid any untoward incidents, including the possibility that customers might slip while trying to make payments," she said.
