Yoursay: Cries of ‘Reformasi’ ring hollow in Julau

YOURSAY | ‘If Anwar can't manage his own party, can I trust him to lead my beloved country?’

PKR's reformist claim on thin ice, warns Ambiga

Odysseus: Former Bersih co-chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan is right to say that PKR is in danger of losing the moral high ground as “reformist”.

The party’s reputation has gone down the drain with all the shenanigans going on in their internal polls. What makes things worse is the complete absence of leadership and total silence from PKR president-elect Anwar Ibrahim.

I wouldn’t be surprised if these fractious elections end up tearing the party apart, ending Anwar’s dream of becoming prime minister. If he can't manage his own party, can I trust him to lead my beloved country? No way.

Cogito Ergo Sum: Ambiga encapsulates it well: “13,000 members in one day? Really?” Whoever thought out this scheme must be very naïve, or is thinking we are living during the Umno-BN era.

If the membership roll is accepted by the leadership, then they really are unfit to be part of any government. You have let down the rakyat by assuming we are still stupid.

The Red Baron: So doing the math, 13,000 members gather to be registered in one day. Applicant walks in, sits down, takes out his or her MyKad, and hands it over to the registering officer.

The officer verifies the IC number details are correct and the picture is that of the person who wants to be a member.

The officer then keys in details into a computer. Authentication committee members verify details of the applicant are correct, check the MyKad, and approve the application, which is also keyed into a computer and/or record book. A slip is printed and given to the new member as evidence of his or her application.

And all this is done in just 6.6 seconds! This must be a world record.

Alternatively, a group of 270 very efficient and highly dedicated PKR officers registered the 13,000 members at a rate of 96 new applicants every 15 minutes over the span of 24 hours, without having meals or taking toilet breaks.

They must have been split into one group of 135 verifying candidates’ information, and another 135 authenticating the details.

All this while the 13,000 applicants are standing patiently outside the registration centre. What dedication and patience… and what nonsense. We are doomed if these power-crazy cheats are in charge.

Falcon: Ambiga is right. Before the two sides in PKR went to war after the alleged clarion call of being "Mahathir’s lackeys", the deck was being stacked to get rid of deputy presidential candidate Azmin Ali any which way.

Only a fool would believe the infamous trinity and others colluding in this plan of action were practising democracy. The silence, denials and doublespeak, while throwing stones and hiding one’s hands, speak volumes.

From the perspective of an independent political analyst who has known the senior actors here from 1982, I am saddened. How can you talk of parliamentary reforms when one micromanages one’s own political interests and obsessions thinking that Malaysia is still stuck in 1998?

As Ambiga alludes to, the damage this PKR election has done, and the acts and omissions of those who preach democratic values, reforms, accountability and good governance, but in the shadows do the very opposite, is now exposed for all Malaysians to see.

Anonymous 2319461440035118: PKR has "reformed" into Umno. Everyone can see it. Anwar’s silence over the infighting shows what a poor leader he is.

He thinks of nothing except how to get Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad out of office as early as possible so that he can take up the seat.

As a party leader, he has failed in his duty to build a strong, steady party to lead Harapan. If he can't do that, what can the rakyat expect from him as a prime minister?

Just wait and see, when he becomes the prime minister, there will definitely be trouble within Harapan and his cronies will be made ministers.

Headhunter: The whole farcical PKR election stinks to high heaven. They have not learned anything from the recent general election where BN was dumped.

Whoever won will be treated with disdain and disbelief. This is the beginning of internal conflict within PKR. Larry Sng, the one-time blue-eyed boy of former Sarawak chief minister Abdul Taib Mahmud, is the cause of this.

Ferdtan: The Julau PKR division election should be suspended and excluded from the whole count, the reality of fraud is obvious.

It is we, who are not partisans to any side, who have the moral high ground to call a spade a spade.

Newday: PKR, get your act together. It would seem through the huge amount of press coverage that we are holding elections for the deputy president of a country, not a political party.

Why is there so much press coverage? Ambiga answers that question. As she says: “13,000 increase in members in one day? Really?”

Something stinks in this whole overblown process. PKR, remember that you are in the ruling coalition and are not the ruling party. Coalitions have a habit of collapsing.

Make sure you get your internal ructions sorted out as soon as possible, and ensure all in PKR are working to making the coalition as rock solid as possible. If you don't do this now, you will not win GE15.

Roger 5201: The cries of Reformasi are ringing rather hollow in Julau. Anwar and outgoing president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail’s tacit silence on the 13,000 parachute voters is deafening, disappointing and unacceptable.

Pat20231: The crucifixion by BN and the hard struggle through bitter days has taken its toll on PKR. How would you feel if you were sitting behind bars while a bunch of thieves are busy looting the country and enriching themselves?

Even now, listening to the so-called do-gooders cannot soothe your soul, because they had already loaded up during their time. It is easy when you have distributed your millions to family and friends and then wiped away all traces and start preaching about leading the good life.

Why would any PKR head honcho want to walk the lonely road of being morally upright when you can easily cash in your ticket and book a life of riches for your family and friends?

Why change the tried and tested formula when your stay at the throne could be short-lived? Look around at what's happening in the world, especially in the US, Saudi Arabia and China.

I think the general consensus today is that the straight line is not worth walking anymore.

Anonymous_889aeeb5: A summary of the six months since Harapan took office: Bersatu is on the way to becoming the next Umno, and PKR has finally brought to light the rubbish that was hidden behind the Reformasi claim.

People are not getting what they were promised in the manifesto, and will soon realise they have been once again conned.
