Vigneswaran under probe for allegedly breaching airport security protocol

Police have launched an investigation into the alleged flouting of security protocol by Dewan Negara president S Vigneswaran when using the VIP lounge at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) recently.

Selangor police chief Mazlan Mansor said the case was being investigated under the Protected Areas and Protected Places Act 1959, reported Harian Metro.

"Investigation is being carried out. We are investigating it under the Protected Areas and Protected Places Act 1959," he told the Malay daily when contacted yesterday.

Mazlan's statement followed Transport Minister Anthony Loke's comment earlier that the airport management had lodged a police report over the Nov 14 incident.

On Saturday, Loke had during a press conference accused Vigneswaran of knowingly flouting security protocol when using the airport's VIP lounge.

During the conference, Loke produced closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage which showed Vigneswaran arriving at the airport’s VIP lounge wearing slippers before he was stopped by the aviation security personnel.

The minister also claimed that Vigneswaran had raised his voice at the airport staff and entered the VIP lounge without a security pass.

Vigneswaran, who is also MIC president, has in turn denied doing so and said the minister was being unfair to him by not allowing him the chance to explain himself.
