Damansara MP Tony Pua has been ousted in the Selangor DAP election.
Pua, who was the incumbent Selangor DAP chief, vied for one of the 15 leadership positions, but had indicated that he did not intend to continue heading the state chapter.
However, he failed to make into the top 15 after today's election.
The state DAP election is a two-tiered process where delegates only vote for the top 15 candidates that they want to see in the leadership.
These candidates then vote among themselves on who will occupy the respective positions, including the chairperson.
According to the election results, Pua came in at 19th place, with 292 votes – tying him with first-term Bandar Utama assemblyperson Jamaliah Jamaluddin.
Meanwhile, the newly-elected top 15 decided to elect Gobind Singh Deo as the new Selangor DAP chief.

The communications and multimedia minister had come in at ninth place with 393 votes. The candidate who garnered the most was Kinrara assemblyperson Ng Sze Han.
'Strange not to be disappointed'
Pua had backed Gobind to take over from him as Selangor DAP chief.
When met by journalists, he expressed his disappointment at not being able to support Gobind.
"Surely there is some disappointment. It would be strange not to be disappointed but I accept the decision.
"I'm not disappointed that I was not elected. I had said I did not want to remain as the state chief, but I didn't say I didn't want to be part of the leadership committee.
"I wanted to be in the committee so as to support our new chief," he said.
'Work to be done'
Meanwhile, Gobind said he will be meeting the various DAP divisions in Selangor in his new role as state chief.

"My duty is to hear the wishes of all divisions and we need to build a strong party to face the challenges that are to come.
"I am confident with the current leadership lineup. We have a skilled team, and we will do our best to bring Selangor DAP to new heights," he said.
Gobind said that as DAP is a party in the ruling coalition, there is much work to be done.
