Nomination day for the by-election will take place on Jan 12, but at least two potential candidates have declared their intention to contest, namely DAP's M Manogaran and MyPPP's M Kayveas.
"People have high hopes to see a clean by-election, but there were still election offences committed in the last four by-elections.
"We will not hesitate to report any election offences to the authorities, including the police, the Communications and Multimedia Commission and the MACC," Bersih committee member Alexzander Johnson told a press conference in Petaling Jaya.
Johnson said Bersih will be cooperating with NGOs Engage and Tindak Malaysia to monitor the election.
He also urged candidates in the by-election to sign a pledge for a clean and fair election.
"The pledge is to ensure that they campaign in an ethical, clean and fair manner that is free from corruption."
