Free from his duties as prime minister, Pekan MP Najib Abdul Razak today said he now has more time to go down to the ground and remind people of BN's past contributions, prior to its defeat in the 14th general election.

Speaking during a meet-the-supporters session in Lembah Pantai, Kuala Lumpur, the former Umno president was in high spirits as he also took the opportunity to mock the present Harapan administration.

"We (BN) have been the victims of slander, lies and half-truths...I also feel that now there is a situation where the people have been cheated," claimed Najib.

Through his recent series of public engagement sessions organised by pro-Umno NGO DSN Supporters Club, Najib claimed he had been approached by many people who said they felt cheated by Harapan's purportedly unfulfilled promises.

"They told me, 'We miss the time of Datuk Seri Najib'," Najib said to cheers from about 150 supporters, largely comprised of senior citizens who had gathered at the basement of Residensi Kerinchi.

Najib had launched the apartment complex two years ago, but lamented today that since BN lost power, he and his supporters had been forced to gather in the basement.

"Before they (Harapan) won, they said, 'If Harapan wins, the people will be happy!'" he said mockingly as the crowd cheered and a voice shouted "Kencing!" - a Malay slang word for telling a lie.

Buoyed by their response, Najib further cited Harapan's list of "unfulfilled promises.

This, he said, included the coalition’s pledge to bring down the prices of goods, as well as to “abolish” National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loans.

A 'panicked' minister

On the price of goods, Najib repeated his jibe towards Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail after the latter had previously thanked him for assisting the ministry in monitoring the price of eggs at the market.

"He (Saifuddin) said the price of eggs had gone down by two sen. (Harga) telur turun ke telur siapa turun (Did egg prices drop or did someone’s ‘eggs’ drop)?," said Najib to more loud cheers.

Following his own visit to the Datuk Keramat Market in Kuala Lumpur last weekend, Najib claimed Saifuddin had "panicked" when the former premier had tweeted his discovery that the prices of eggs did not come down as announced.

"When the minister saw that (tweet), he panicked. He said 'Congratulations Datuk Seri' for assisting us. Eh? I can help?

"If I help, then I should come back as the government!" he said.

To his supporters, Najib said perhaps the experience of being governed by Harapan with their allegedly unfulfilled promises would serve as a lesson to voters to avoid making the same mistake again.

Since his resignation as Umno president following BN's historic election defeat last year, Najib has consistently taken to social media to challenge Harapan's policies or mock purported inconsistencies by its leaders.

Earlier, the event organiser from DSN Supporters Club introduced Najib as "a prime minister on vacation" and pledged that his legacy should not be forgotten.
