Madinah's term will end on Feb 22, a day short of her two-year anniversary in the job.
The source also revealed that an appreciation dinner is to be held in her honour on that night.
Malaysiakini has contacted Madinah's office for confirmation.
Madinah, 62, came into office on Feb 23, 2017, taking over from Ambrin Buang.
Her appointment was controversial at the time, due to her and her husband's memberships in Umno amid ongoing probes into the 1MDB affair and its alleged links to former premier Najib Abdul Razak.
Last November, she issued a statement alleging that Najib and others had been involved in tampering the National Audit Department's 2016 report on 1MDB.
At present, it is not clear who will replace Madinah as auditor-general.
Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said in August last year that oversight of the National Audit Department would be transferred from his office to a parliamentary select committee.
He also said that the PSC would be responsible for appointing the next auditor-general.
