YOURSAY | With the by-election less than a week away, which side has the upper hand?

Najib trial a complication for Rantau, KJ admits

The Wakandan: Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin should just keep quiet. You are an Oxford graduate; at least you should be more intelligent than your average supporters.

You cannot feign ignorance about former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak’s crimes. Otherwise, your qualification as an Oxford graduate may be questionable if you cannot differentiate what’s right and wrong.

That much integrity that you can save for yourself, and with little that is left, please do not allow yourself to leave with zero.

Oscar Kilo: Of course, no one is presumed guilty until proven so in court, but you would have to be downright stupid to ignore the mountains of evidence already stacked against the ex-MO1 (Malaysian Official 1).

Nain: Yes, the court has not found him guilty yet. But the SRC International money that went into his personal bank account was real.

Not guilty yet, sure. Nobody disputed that.

Fair Minded Citizen: Khairy, please explain to the Umno candidate for Rantau, Mohamad Hasan (Mat Hasan), what is happening. He does not seem to have a clue.

At least, you acknowledge that Najib’s case can cause problems to BN. But the ex-MB talks as if he is the new PM material - God forbid.

Quo Vadis: Is there one good reason why people should vote for BN?

Study carefully, the corruption, Tabung Haji, Felda, Felcra, 1MDB, East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), the thievery, the national debt, the draconian laws, the murders, (Altantuya Shaariibuu, Kevin Morais), police custodial deaths, people gone missing (Raymond Koh, Amri Che Mat), human trafficking (Wang Kelian), the sad state of the education system, the incarceration of people without trial, the thuggery, the buying of votes, the slogans - “cash is king”, “you help me, I help you”, the electoral gerrymandering - all done under BN watch.

Do you still want to give your vote to BN? Do you want more of the same?

Confident Mat Hasan says he faces no challenges

The Wakandan: Being so haughty is not an attribute of the Malays. Mat Hasan perhaps is feeling the heat.

PAS is not that strong in Rantau, so their help may be minimal.

Mat Hasan can count on his Umno supporters but with PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim going there, the win is not a foregone conclusion for him. He should be more humble but alas, one can see that he begins to show a crack in his armour.

His defence of Najib and 1MDB is incoherent. He seemed to appeal to the emotion, but only the stupid would buy that.

Game: Really? Just a moment ago, Khairy said the Najib trial might complicate things... now you say no challenges?

In swipe at Bossku, Anwar jokes about Sg Buloh's 'new inmate'

Mosquitobrain: Anwar, laying decent food on the tables is of paramount importance than training your daggers at Umno thieves.

We know crimes do not pay. Let the long arm of law deal with them. Do something more meaningful to help the economy and for the rakyat.

Do not wait until you sit on the throne. By then it may be too late.

Nain: @Mosquitobrain, Anwar is not in the government yet. Your comments should be directed at Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

PPP: @Mosquitobrain, It's just 10 to 11 months and if you care to read the amount of work Harapan has done, then you will understand.

It's not as easy as Mahathir or Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng telling Mydin or Tesco to reduce prices.

The entire structure of corporate governance has been destroyed by Najib and Umno. It is corruption that causes the cost of living to go up.

The foundation of our government and governance has to be cleaned up. Giving handouts and ‘dedak’ (animal feed) to the rakyat is not the answer because the deep-rooted rot will remain.

The problem in general with Malaysians is the ignorance and lack of understanding of the amount of money Najib had swiped off. That too adds to your cost of living.

Kahlil Gibran: Mahathir has never been stronger than he is now. When Harapan formed the government in May 2018, Mahathir was at the mercy of DAP and PKR.

Today, Mahathir has DAP and PKR in the palm of his hands and he can squeeze the life out of both of them if he so pleases.

On the sidelines, Mahathir has PAS, Umno, Sabah and Sarawak. If DAP and PKR misbehave, Mahathir can just replace them with PAS, Umno, Sabah and Sarawak. And DAP and PKR know this.

For the immediate future, Mahathir is no longer under threat like he was 10 months ago. So, he can go on and do all those things he plans to do with no resistance from anyone.

Mahathir needs a year or two to complete his plans. And he has that year or two, after which it no longer matters what happens.

No Fear Nor Favour: Harapan, we need a change in your set-up. No one party should monopolise in a coalition government. A victory by PKR in the Rantau by-election will help Harapan to avert authoritarian rule.

Bersatu will not be able to survive with underperforming leaders and redundant leftovers of undesirable characters from ex-Umno. Anwar will be a far better person to lead.
