The Malaysian Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) is convinced that there was no foul play during the death of Simpang Renggam detainee S Hendry.

The deceased is the subject of an open inquiry at the detention camp today, where S Hendry, 18, had reportedly hanged himself.

According to Bernama , Suhakam commissioner Prof Mohd Hamdan Adnan said that the inquiry panel was satisfied with the evidence gathered.

"The cause of death seems conclusive. According to forensic reports, the lack of air in Hendry's throat indicates that he hanged himself," he said.

In addition, spots found on the deceased's navel to his legs indicate that he died between 3am to 5am after being put in a cell at 10pm on Nov 18 2005.

Forensic reports further state that there were no other signs of injuries on his body, reenforcing the theory that the cause of death was due to the hanging.

No screams

Several detainees interviewed told the panel that they heard sounds of kicking, but no screaming for help, added Hamdan.

"Hendry's father H Sreedhran does not seem to be happy with the investigations, but we will try our best to explain the results," said Hamdan.

The open inquiry called on 27 witnesses, including the a Kajang magistrate judge, forensic experts, prison staff, Sreedhran, Hendry's siblings and psychiatrists.

According to the police, Hendry hanged himself in his cell 24 hours after being transferred to the Simpang Renggam detention centre in Johor from the Kajang police station in Selangor.

However, his father is unable to accept that his son would take his own life and it was only hours before that the teenager had told his father not to worry about him.

Furthermore, Sreedhran claimed that the cloth Henry had purportedly used in his suicide was thick and short hence unable to block his airway.
