Anwar: People want to know if sex video real, who circulated it

People want to know if the sex video implicating Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali is authentic and who was responsible for leaking it, said PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.

“There are two phases - one is whether the video is authentic and secondly, who circulated it. The people want to know both of these," he told journalists at the Parliament lobby today.

Anwar said this when commenting on the police remanding former Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz (below) and five others for six days in connection with the case.

They are being investigated under Section 292A of the Penal Code which concerns the distribution of obscene material, which is punishable with up to three years imprisonment or a fine or both.

They are also being investigated under Section 233 the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 which concerns the improper use of network facilities and carries a fine of up to RM50,000 or up to one-year imprisonment or both.

Anwar said PKR would leave the matter to the police.

He noted that there were many questions about the video but said it is best to leave them to the police to answer.

Haziq had confessed to being the person in the video performing sexual acts on another man, whom he claimed was Azmin.

Azmin, who is also PKR deputy president, has described the video as a nefarious attempt to ruin his political career.

The minister is also convinced that it is an inside job.

Anwar and his aides have repeatedly denied any involvement.

Previously, Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador said police have not identified the mastermind behind the video but have found elements pointing towards a political conspiracy.
