198 out of 219 PKR division heads back Anwar as PM

A total of 198 of 219 PKR division heads nationwide expressed their support for party president Anwar Ibrahim to become the next prime minister.

Kangar PKR division chief Noor Amin Ahmad, who represented the group today, said the support shows that the party is solid and there is no internal turmoil.

"We took the initiative to reach all division leaders nationwide to state their stance on supporting Anwar's leadership as the PKR president as well as the eighth prime minister.

"The support from us (198 branch leaders) showed that we are all strong and united under the leadership of Anwar. 

"We support Anwar to helm the country as agreed by the Pakatan Harapan leadership before the 14th general election," he told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur.

Noor Amin added that PKR members are looking forward to seeing Anwar take over the country's top post.

"Maybe there's no specific date (to hand over power)... but if you ask PKR members, perhaps they will say that they want Anwar to become prime minister as soon as possible."

Prior to this, Anwar and his deputy Mohamed Azmin Ali were seen to be on bad terms after exchanging remarks following the viral sex video implicating the latter.

Anwar had said that Azmin must resign as economic affairs minister if it was proven that it was him in the video, which prompted Azmin to respond by asking Anwar to "look at the man in the mirror." 

Recently, Azmin said he "welcomed" PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's support for Dr Mahathir Mohamad to complete a full term as prime minister. 

Noor Amin said the support today included those who had signed a resolution during a PKR leadership retreat in Port Dickson last month.

In June, former Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz admitted that he was the man in the sex video and implicated Azmin as the other.

Azmin had dismissed the allegation as slander and said it was an attempt to destroy his political career.

Police have made several arrests including on Haziq and Anwar's aide Farhash Wafa Salvador. The investigation is still ongoing.
