Some 100 houses will be torn down to pave the way for an infrastructural project in Jinjang Selatan Tambahan, Kuala Lumpur.

Anxious about their future, about 300 residents raised their plight during a meeting with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) officials at its enforcement directorate headquarters this morning.

Apart from the 100 houses slated for demolition, DBKL had also issued notices to 203 residents informing them that certain portions of their houses, such as fences and extensions, would be demolished

During the hour-long meeting, a DBKL officer who declined to be named assured that the city hall would help relocate those affected 'as soon as possible'.

Owners of the houses consists of temporary occupation license (TOL) holders while others have land titles and land grants.

TNB project

Accompanying the residents was DAP deputy chair and Kepong MP Dr Tan Seng Giaw. He thanked DBKL for providing alternative houses.

"At least in this country, the authorities consider providing an alternative for such victims," he said.

The project, undertaken by national utility company Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), aims to construct new power pylons that connects the Bukit Tarek substation to the Chubadak substation.

Tan explained that the project was part of a cabinet decision to prevent the reoccurrence of major blackouts in the Klang Valley.

He said that he would schedule a meeting between the affected residents and TNB soon, as the latter had expressed its wish to offer compensation.
