Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the government should fulfill plans laid out in its previous budget before announcing new plans.

"Implement the earlier plans. A lot of things raised last year were not implemented.

"Now they are promising this and that. Implemented the earlier plans first, then they will gain the people's confidence," said Zahid, who is also Bagan Datoh MP, after the Budget 2020 speech in Parliament today.

Opposition leader Ismail Sabri did not make himself available to the press at the Parliament lobby for comments on Budget 2020.

MCA president Wee Ka Siong scored Budget 2020 with a "3 out of 10" which does not offer any cures for the country's maladies.

"They are giving us a lot of grand plans without any details on how it will be implemented. A lot of things look good, but are not practical," he said.

He also accused Pakatan Harapan of contradicting themselves and "slapping themselves on the face" by expanding the handout schemes.

"For example, they are giving handouts to rubber tappers, smallholders and fisherfolks. In the past, they called this 'dedak' (chicken feed).

"They said this was vote-buying. What do they call it now? Aren't they slapping themselves on their face?" he asked.

Wee also poured cold water in the new #MalaysiaKerja (Malaysia@Work) subsidy scheme for those who gain employment.

"Does it solve the root cause of the problem? I don't think so," he said.

#MalaysiaKerja aimed to provide a monthly allowance of RM500 for graduates after they found employment after being jobless for 12 month, for women who return to the workforce and Malaysians who replace foreigners.

The scheme allowance will last for two years.

The plan is aimed at reducing unemployment, increase women participation in the workforce and to encourage Malaysians to take over jobs done by foreigners.

Meanwhile, Wee also criticised Putrajaya for slashing funding for Kolej Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman to RM1 million, down from RM5.5 million previously.
