Petra Jaya MP: Young people fed up of BN and Harapan, need to rise

Petra Jaya MP Fadillah Yusof has fired shots at both Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan, saying that young people disillusioned with their divisive politics should rise up through a new movement.

Fadillah (photo), a former Works Minister who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PPB) vice-president, urged Malaysia’s angry young generation to change politics as the current practice of politicians harping on race, religion and language was a barrier to a united Malaysia.

“Going by the postings in the social media, a substantial number of people are now dissatisfied with the operations of the federal system and these negative feelings appear to be concentrated amongst the younger set of Malaysians – those who will, by legislation – vote in the next general election," said Fadillah according to a report in Free Malaysia Today.

Fadillah himself was elected four times under the Barisan Nasional banner but has since seen his PBB party pull out to form a regional coalition Gabungan Parti Sarawak.

He said people were now very cynical about the failure of political leaders to introduce new policies and respond to the needs of the voters.

“If they (young people) take up the challenge,” he said, “it will change political development in the country”.

He said that a movement led by young people focused on issues instead of the current scenario of identity politics and personalities could change the political landscape and woo disinterested parties.

This could help bridge the racial, ethnic and language divisions plaguing the country, he said.
