Entrepreneur Development Minister Redzuan Mohd Yusof enjoyed a private viewing of the "Super Drone" manned aerial vehicle after an invitation from local entrepreneurs, Eastcap Bhd, who are working with foreign partners on the project.

Redzuan (photo) also received a presentation of the company's plans to develop 10,000 units a year with 2,000 job opportunities.

In a statement today, his ministry said it was common for ministries and agencies to take a closer look at the products of entrepreneurial ability.

"The ministry will continue to support the development of innovative SME entrepreneurs with the National Entrepreneurship Policy 2030 (DKN 2030) to expand the major potential sectors of high-growth industries," said Redzuan.

"These industries are the aerospace, automotive, rail, renewable energy, medical devices, biotechnology and the halal industry."

Redzuan hailed the new project as a privately-driven initiative that did not entail any financial commitments from the government.

"Such projects can further enhance R&D activities in the aerospace industry and through joint ventures between local and international companies in the field of assembly and manufacture of parts and components," he said.

"Latest technology will be used including big data, artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT)."

Yesterday, Redzuan clarified that the China-made "flying car" that will be tested was not Malaysia's first air mobility vehicle but the product of a Chinese firm that was looking to set up shop in Malaysia.

He said a wholly-Malaysian initiative was being developed in Japan, but the project was behind schedule.

These were two out of four initiatives related to developing the air mobility industry in Malaysia so far, Redzuan said.

"Entrepreneurs who want to enter the industry must be aware of the existing rules and regulations and cooperate with the authorities regarding the monitoring of such activity.".

The ministry was also in talks with the Transport Ministry and the Malaysian Civil Aviation Authority to determine a legal framework to support the development of the industry.
