CORONAVIRUS | Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad confirmed that the registration of students from Wuhan city in China’s Hubei province at all Malaysian education institutions is being temporarily suspended due to the novel coronavirus outbreak.
“The Health Ministry and the Education Ministry are suspending student entry from Wuhan to all higher learning centres and we will inform you when this comes to an end," Dzulkefly (above) told a press conference in Putrajaya.
"Students from other provinces in China are allowed to register to study in Malaysia, but they will be strictly monitored by their universities," he added.
Asked whether the China government had made a request to send their infected citizens back, he said he had no information on this as yet, but that he had been told Malaysia is still in the process of getting its citizens back from Wuhan.
Currently, the Sabah government has barred all flights from China, which led China's envoy to Malaysia Bai Tian to call for reconsideration.
Malaysia has also suspended all immigration facilities for China nationals who originated from Wuhan district and Hubei province, as part of the government's efforts to contain infection of the coronavirus.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has also declared the coronavirus outbreak that has killed 213 people in China to be a global emergency, as cases spread to at least 18 countries.
