Lubok Antu's member of Parliament Tambat @ Jugah Muyang has quit PKR to be an independent supporting Perikatan Nasional and Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

When contacted, Jugah (above, left) confirmed that he had issued a statement to announce his move effective immediately.

"I pledge to fully support the PN government led by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and the Sarawak state government under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) led by Chief Minister Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Abang Openg for the betterment and development of Lubok Antu constituents.

"With this, I announce my leave from PKR to remain as an independent MP who fully supports the PN government and GPS state government," said Jugah in the statement.

Jugah, who was a PKR appointed vice-president, had contested as an independent in the last general election before joining PKR.

In his statement, Jugah said Lubok Antu was a rural constituency which required developmental support from the federal government.

"I have discussed with my supporters and they agreed that I should fully support the PN government for the betterment of Lubok Antu," he said.

Having previously lost Selangau MP Baru Bian as its state chief, Jugah's departure effectively leaves Sarawak PKR with only two MPs - Julau MP Larry Sng, who is the current state chief, and Miri MP Michael Teo.

As of the last Dewan Rakyat sitting on May 18, Muhyiddin had a wafer-thin majority of two MPs.
