Zero cases by mid-July if rakyat obey SOP - Health Ministry
CORONAVIRUS | The Health Ministry has projected that Malaysia could stop registering new Covid-19 cases by the middle of next month should the public abide by the various standard operating procedures (SOP) issued.
In his media briefing today, the ministry’s director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that the country was already recording lower daily case numbers than projected.

In his media briefing today, the ministry’s director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that the country was already recording lower daily case numbers than projected.
“Perhaps in about a month, if we follow the SOP and the ministry’s advice, we will be able to achieve zero new cases. That is our goal.
“Our projections tell us that if the rakyat follow the SOP, we could achieve zero new cases by the middle of July. This is not based on what the ministry can do, but this is up to whether the people follow the SOP,” he said.
The country recorded six new Covid-19 cases as of 12 noon today. Just three cases were recorded yesterday.
Daily new cases have not risen past 50 since June 5.
Asked if the country was prepared for a resumption of social events come July 1, the top official again emphasised the importance of following the SOP, especially social distancing.
“If we can control the virus while returning to our norms by abiding by these SOPs, this will be the best,” he said.
“We do not have a vaccine today. As I have mentioned previously, practicing social distancing of at least one metre is our vaccine for now,” he added.
Earlier today, the government decided that wedding receptions and private events will be allowed from next month, subject to SOPs.
Such events include feasts, religious ceremonies, wedding anniversaries, birthday parties and reunions.
Among the SOPs are a 250-guest limit, a three to five-hour time limit, a ban on buffets, conducting temperature checks, and practising social distancing.
Participants are also advised to wear face masks.
