The government has decided to allow matriculation colleges to reopen from Aug 10 and students will be required to register beforehand.

In a press conference today, Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob (above) said matriculation college students will need to register themselves a week before classes begin.
“Registration for matriculation colleges will happen in stages starting Aug 3 to Aug 7 involving 30,000 students at 15 campuses.
“Classes will begin one week after the registration process,” he said.
“Teacher training colleges will be reopened in Sept and will involve 5,000 new students and 8,000 existing students,” he added, stopping short of announcing a specific date.
These reopenings are to adhere to guidelines and standard operating procedures determined by the Education Ministry.
Cops to enforce compulsory mask rule
Come Saturday (Aug 1), wearing face masks will be mandatory on public transport and in crowded places.
When asked today if RM1,000 compounds will be issued to violators if caught, Ismail said the police have been given full discretion to implement the rule.
“When we say something is compulsory, it means if someone breaches the rule, they will be penalised. However, it is up to the police how they want to enforce this.
“In the past, when something was decided upon, the police would give advice or reprimand someone at the beginning. We leave this to the police to decide,” he answered.
Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said yesterday that a list of crowded places where the mandatory face mask rule will apply will be released soon.
He also shared that the government was studying ways to supply fabric face masks to the needy, adding that the mask specifications will meet standards set by the World Health Organisation.
